Beavers Shoot Down Cats, 63-55

TUCSON, Ariz. - Oregon State scored from the line and on the outside to earn a 63-55 win over host Arizona, Thursday evening in Pac-10 play at the McKale Center.
The Beavers used a balanced offensive attack to build a 18-point second half lead and hold off a late charge to sweep the season series against the Wildcats.
After a slow start shooting against a tenacious Arizona zone, the Beavers found their shooting touch from long range. The top three-point shooting team in the Pac-10, Oregon State was a combined 7-of-12 (.583) from long range in the first half. Brittney Davis hit four treys while Talisa Rhea added three on six attempts apiece.
As the outside game got going, that opened up the inside for the Beavers. Oregon State went to the free throw line 23 times, all in the second half, and converted 15 of those attempts.
Arizona managed to keep things close in the first half behind solid play from Ify Ibekwe and Courtney Clements. Ibekwe hit 4-of-6 from the field while Clements hit a pair of three-pointers as each player had eight points.
Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they committed 10 turnovers in the first half. Though they also forced the same number by the Beavers, Oregon State earned a 12-6 advantage in points off those miscues before the break and finished the game with a 21-13 edge.
Oregon State used a 12-2 run to start the second half that effectively put the game out of reach. Holding a 31-25 lead at intermission, the Beavers had five different players score points, including another three-pointer by Davis. to build a 43-27 lead.
The Cats trimmed the 18-point deficit down to 61-49 with 2:13 to go before building one final charge. Arizona forced a pair of turnovers and got three-pointers from Clements and Reiko Thomas, but only nine seconds remained after the latter.
Davis finished with a game-high 20 points for Oregon State (13-7, 4-6), hitting 5-of-7 from three-point range. Alex Mitchell tossed in 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds off the bench while Rhea tallied 13 points.
Clements led Arizona with 15 points as she hit 3-of-4 trey attempts and 6-of-10 total field goals. Ibekwe kicked in 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while Thomas recorded 12 points.
Arizona (8-13, 1-9) hosts Oregon on Saturday, February 7 with tip-off scheduled for 12 p.m. The contest will be the annual Pink Zone game with both teams donning pink in various manners of their uniform.
