BOULDER - University of Colorado senior Troi Smith has been named to the Winter Chick-Fil-A Community of Champions, as recognized by the Big 12 Conference.

Smith, a member of the track and field team, hails from DeSoto, Texas and is an integrative physiology major at CU.

As a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for the past three years, Smith has been involved with many different volunteer programs, including Read with the Buffs, Buffalo Hugs and Coats for Colorado, as well as the annual Homecoming food drive. She was one of two student-athletes to represent CU at the 2007 NCAA Regional Leadership Conference in Dallas.

Smith came to Colorado as a sprinter but moved over to the combined events area as a junior. She recorded a personal best 3,102 points in her very first pentathlon at the 2008 Potts Indoor Invitational and placed second overall. Smith's top finish in the heptathlon came during the 2008 Big 12 Outdoor Championship in Boulder where she put together 4,136 points.

Each Big 12 institution has one student-athlete named to the Chick-Fil-A Community of Champions team in the fall, winter and spring seasons. Recipients are honored based on a grade point average of 3.00 or higher, being involved with at least one community service project within a student organization, on campus, or part of the athletic department as well as being able to demonstrate leadership and sportsmanship on and off the field.
