Feb. 7, 2009

Bruin freshman Katja Goldring and alum Meb Keflezighi qualified for the World Cross Country Championships, held March 28 in Amman, Jordan, after competing at the USATF National Championships on Saturday in Derwood, MD.

Goldring, the women's team MVP for the 2008 cross country season, finished sixth overall to secure a spot on Team USA for the World Junior Championships. She ran 21:37 over the 6km course.

Keflezighi, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist in the marathon, won the men's 12km race in a time of 36:06 to qualify for Team USA. Keflezighi has had quite a season over the last several weeks as he also raced to the U.S. Half Marathon crown in a time of 1:01.25. Today, Keflezighi won with a lean at the tape as the winner was decided by a photo finish.

Also at the USA meet, freshman Taryn Pastoor finished 37th in a time of 23:11.
