Talisa Rhea Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team

Feb. 10, 2009

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State sophomore guard Talisa Rhea has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Second Team, the organization CoSIDA announced.

CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) selects all-academic teams in 12 different sports throughout the year. Student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 and be a starter or significant reserve. They must also be at least sophomores. Each district is then voted upon by sports information directors in their region and those student-athletes who earned first-team status are eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Rhea, who double majors in education and exercise and sport science, was named to the second team after capturing a 3.54 cumulative grade point average through the end of fall term.

Rhea has played a big role for the Beavers this season as they enter Thursday night's game with a 13-8 overall record. The Juneau, Alaska, native has started in all 21 games and leads the team in scoring with 14.1 points per game. She has also averaged 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest. Rhea leads the Beavers with 49 three-pointers, which is tied for the fifth-best single-season mark in school history. As a freshman last season, Rhea hit on 67 three-pointers, which is the second most in a single-year.

Rhea is the second player to earn an all-district honor during head coach LaVonda Wagner's tenure at Oregon State. Mandy Close was named to the All-District VIII Third Team in 2005-06, her senior year.

Oregon State returns home to Corvallis to host the Washington schools next weekend. The Beavers square off against Washington Thursday night at legendary Gill Coliseum. The game starts at 7 p.m. PT and can be heard live by tuning into KTHH 990-AM in the Corvallis area and KKAD 1550-AM in Portland. The game can also be heard live on the Internet by tuning into Beaver Nation Online (osubeavers.com) and Yahoo! Sports. Todd Mansfield will call all the action.

On Saturday night, the Beavers will play Washington State in a 'Pink Zone' game. Sponsored by the WBCA, the event is held nationwide. Fans who purchase the official Pink Zone t-shirt from Beaver Authentics and wear it to the game, will receive a free general admission ticket and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
