WSU Finishes Second at Thunderbird Invite

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Washington State University's men's golf team moved up three positions in the final day to take second place at the par-72, 6,758-yard Sunbrook Golf Course.
'We played very well today with temperatures in the 30s and gusts of wind about 20 miles per hour!' said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams. 'I am pretty pleased that my team was able to move up to second.'
Sophomore Nick Ellis led the Cougars throughout the tournament. He finished the first day of competition in sole possession of first place with a score of 69 (-3). In the final day he posted a 72 (E) to card a two-round score of 141 (-3), finishing tied with Erik Jarvey of CSU-Northridge for the lead. Jarvey won a one-hole playoff to take home first place. This was Ellis' second top 10 finish of the season and seventh top 10 finish of his WSU career. He now ranks seventh on the all-time WSU career list for top 10 finishes.
Juniors Kevin Tucker and Austin Hurt each finished in the top 25 for the Cougars. Tucker carded a final round score of 71 (-1) to move up 36 positions finish in a tie for 13th place. Tucker now has 15 career top 25 finishes, eighth most in WSU history. Hurt posted a final-round score of 74 (+2) to move up 11 positions to finish in a tie for 16th place.
'Tucker tied for low round of the day and Ellis tied for tournament medalist. It was a nice start to the spring!' said Williams.
Playing as individuals, sophomore Xavier Dailly posted a two-round score of 151 (+7) to finish in a tie for 22nd place, and redshirt freshman Ryan Jones carded a two-round score of 157 (+13) to round out the Cougar scorers.
The Cougars posted a two-round score of 590 (+14) to finish in sole possession of second place.
Next up for the Cougars is the Argonaut Invitational March 2, in Pensacola, Fla.
