Men's Tennis Travels To Chicago For ITA National Team Indoors

STANFORD, Calif. - Currently ranked No. 11 in the ITA Rankings, the Stanford men's tennis team will begin play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago with a first-round match against No. 7 Florida.

The Cardinal will take on the Gators at 12 p.m. CT at the Midtown Tennis Club. The last time the two teams met, in the 2004 NCAA Tournament, Stanford prevailed 4-3.Florida is currently 5-1 and suffered its only loss of the season to No. 13 Illinois, 4-3, on Feb. 10. Among the teams the Gators have beat are No. 10 Baylor, who Florida crushed 7-0 on Jan. 25, and No. 14 Texas A&M, 6-1 on Jan. 31. Three Gators are ranked in ITA singles, No. 63 Joey Burkhardt, No. 66 Tyler Hochwalt, and No. 87 Carlos Cueto.

The Cardinal is 3-0 with notable victories over No. 30 Boise State and No. 29 Auburn. Stanford has three players ranked in singles, No. 14 Bradley Klahn, No. 33 Alex Clayton and No. 62 Richard Wire.

Should Stanford prevail, it will take on the winner of No. 2 Texas and No. 15 Michigan at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.

The ITA Championships are open to the public and tickets are available at the door. Single day tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for students.
