Trojans Finish Fourth At Northrop Grumman

Freshman Jennifer Song tied for second and sophomore Lizette Salas tied for fourth to lead the No. 3 USC women's golf team, which finished fourth at the 2009 Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C. on Wednesday (Feb. 11).
In a tournament played in constant cold and windy conditions (with rain Monday),USC finished at 67-over 919 (313-299-307). Arizona State finished first at 46-over 898 with Wake Forest climbing into second (916) and UCLA taking third (917). Denver was fifth (929).
USC extended its steak of top 5 finishes to 13 events. It was also its 16th straight top 6 finish and its 23 consecutive top 10 finish. The Trojans' streak of top 2 marks was stopped at six.
Song's tie for second was a USC best for the freshman. She completed 54 holes at 9-over 22 (79-70-73). Song shook off a shaky first round to post the best combined second- and third-round total (143) of any in the draw. Salas's tie for fourth marked her fourth top 10 finish in as many starts this season.
Junior Belen Mozo tied for 24th at 21-over 234 (80-77-77), freshman Inah Park tied for 54th at 29-over 242 (85-78-79) and junior Stefanie Endstrasser tied for 73rd at 37-over 250 (81-86-83). Junior Caroline Kim, playing as an individual, tied for 65th at 34-over 247 (84-80-83).
USC next competes in the Wildcat Invitational, Feb. 22-24, at the Peninsula G.C.
