Final scores

Behind a season-high team score, the Arizona gymnastics team collected its first win of the year, beating Brown and Wisconsin-Stout Friday night in McKale Center.

The No. 20 Gymcats (2-5) had season-high scores in three of the four events and beat the visiting Bears and Blue Devils 195.700 to Brown's 189.575 and Wisconsin-Stout's 183.825 in front of 915 fans.

'We're going in the right direction,' said Arizona head coach Bill Ryden. 'Three out of four were fantastic, but we have to do some sole searching on that fourth.'

Arizona had struggled to put together a complete meet all season, but came the closest Friday night, with the lone event of bars hampering the team.

The Wildcats scored a season-high on vault with a 49.275 led by five of the six gymnasts scoring a 9.825 or higher led by freshman Deanna Graham and junior Sarah Tomczyk who both recorded 9.875. Freshman Tayln Curry recorded a career-high 9.775 and Fisher tied a career-high with her 9.850.

Arizona's second season-high event score came on the beam, where it scored a 49.075 behind two individual 9.9. Freshman Britnie Jones and senior Briana Bergeson each put up 9.9 for the highest scores of the meet and no other Wildcat put up a score below a 9.75.

In their final rotation on the floor Arizona scored it's highest score in any event this season with a 49.350 on the floor. Both Tomczyk and freshman Rebecca Cardenas recorded 9.925 to put up the Wildcats two highest scores in any event this year and both scores were career-highs. Arizona had three other gymnast score above a 9.8 in the event.

For the third meet in a row, Arizona struggled on the bars. The team had its lowest point total since its season-opening meet with a 48.000. Freshman Britnie Jones held the team's highest score with a 9.775.

Arizona has a quick turnaround when it travels to Dallas to take on Texas Women's University Sunday at 2:00 p.m. local time.

'We're starting to show what we're capable of,' Ryden said. 'Hopefully they'll be ready for Sunday. This should get them mentally ready, but we'll see how we do physically.'
