Oregon State opens up its 2009 season Friday when visiting Tennessee in Knoxville. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT (4 p.m. in Knoxville).

The game is the 100th opening contest for the Beavers since the 1907 season. Oregon State is 70-29 all-time in opening games and 19-14 in games played on the road. The Beavers are 9-5 in season openers under head coach Pat Casey.
Oregon State opens the 2009 season ranked in four of the five major polls. OSU is 25th in Baseball America's and 24th by Rivals.com. The Beavers are ranked 31st by the NCBWA and 38th by Collegiate Baseball.
Slated For Fourth
According to the Pac-10's coaches, the Beavers are slated to finish the 2009 season fourth in the conference standings. Oregon State did receive two first-place votes among the nine coaches. The Beavers tied for sixth last season.
Returning From `08
Oregon State is slated to return three starting position players from last season -- Joey Wong, Ryan Ortiz and John Wallace. The Beavers have 11 pitchers on their roster who appeared in at least one game last season.
Ortiz Preseason All-American
On Monday, Ryan Ortiz was named a preseason Third-Team All-American by Baseball America.
Notes Of Importance
Just one Oregon State player, Joey Wong, started the 2008 season opener in Tempe, Ariz.
The three games at Tennessee are the only the Beavers are scheduled to play in the Eastern Time Zone this season.
The series marks the fourth straight year OSU will square off against at least one Southeastern Conference opponent. The Beavers played Vanderbilt and Georgia last season.
The Beavers are 6-2 against the SEC over the last four years.
Tanner Robles is the first left-handed pitcher to start a season opener for the Beavers since Jake Postlewait since 2004. He and the Beavers defeated Utah, 8-6.
Oregon State finished 17-10 against non-conference opponents last season and was 9-14 in games played on the road last season.
