Madeleine Stanton Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week
Feb. 17, 2009
Senior backstroker Madeleine Stanton (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood HS) of the UCLA women's swimming & diving team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 9-16.
Stanton had the meet of a lifetime as UCLA battled arch-rival USC. Despite non-stop pouring rain throughout the meet, Stanton broke five records and swam two lifetime-bests and NCAA qualifying marks during the meet. In the 100 backstroke, she broke the school, meet and McDonald's Stadium pool record with a big swim of 53.08. That time bettered her previous best of 54.14 by over a second and was just .07 seconds shy of the NCAA automatic standard. Her time ranks amongst the top-15 in the NCAA this season. In the 200 back, she won again with a meet and school record time of 1:54.87. She had a previous best of 1:56.16 and now moves into the top-15 in the NCAA this season. In her final event of the meet, the 100 fly, Stanton was the top finisher for the Bruins with a second-place swim of 54.84.
This is Stanton's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
