Tennis Teams Back in Action This Week

Women to Host LMU, Hawai'i
After dropping its last two matches at the ITA National Team Indoors, the UCLA women's tennis team (5-2) will look to get back in the win column this week, hosting a pair of non-conference matches this Thursday and Friday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins will face LMU (0-3) on Thursday and Hawai'i (0-3) on Friday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. All matches at the LATC are free.

Bruin Men Head to Waco
Like the women, the UCLA men (6-2) are looking to rebound after suffering their first two losses of the season last week at the ITA National Team Indoors in Chicago. The Bruins will be in Waco, Texas this weekend for a showdown against No. 10 Baylor (5-3) on Sunday at Noon (PST). UCLA narrowly edged Baylor, 4-3 last year at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bears lead the all-time series 4-2.

Recapping the Indoors
Both teams opened up last week's ITA National Team Indoors with first-round wins over respectable opponents. The men were able to overcome a vocal home town crowd to defeat host No. 13 Illinois, 4-2 in the first round on Friday. However, eventual ITA Indoor champion No 5. Virginia knocked UCLA out in the quarterfinals 4-3. Another loss followed the next day, as top-ranked Ohio State posted a 4-0 victory over the Bruins in a consolation match. The UCLA women followed nearly the exact same path as the Bruin men, opening up the tournament with a solid 4-3 win over No. 10 Florida. Unfortunately the Bruins ended the tournament with two straight losses, dropping a 6-1 decision to No. 6 Georgia in the quarterfinals, followed by a 4-3 loss to No. 7 Georgia Tech in the consolation round.

New ITA Rankings to be Released on Thursday
In what will likely be the first major shift in the polls this year, new team and individual rankings will be released by the ITA on Thursday. In addition to the weekly team rankings, new singles and doubles rankings will be issued for the first time since Jan. 6. To view Thursday's new rankings, please click HERE

Tough Stretch for UCLA Men
After facing No. 13 Illinois, No. 5 Virginia and No. 1 Ohio State at last week's ITA National Team Indoors, the Bruin men are scheduled to face four more ranked opponents in the next two weeks. Following this Sunday's match with No. 10 Baylor, UCLA will host No. 24 Cal (Feb. 27), No. 11 Stanford (Feb. 28), and travel across town to face No. 6 USC (March 4).

Schnack Shines in Madison
Yasmin Schnack was the only UCLA women's player to win all three of her singles matches at last week's ITA National Team Indoors. The junior from Sacramento clinched the team's 4-3 victory over No. 10 Florida in the opening round on Friday, defeating No. 99 Anastasia Revzina, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. She followed that up with wins over No. 100 Yvette Hyndman of Georgia and No. 23 Irina Falconi of Georgia Tech. Schnack, who is ranked No. 106 in the country in singles, was also 2-1 at the No. 1 doubles position with partner Andrea Remynse.
