Women's Basketball Drops Decision To No. 4 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - The Oregon State women's basketball team dropped a 72-43 decision to fourth-ranked Stanford Thursday night at Maples Pavilion.
Brittney Davis led the Beavers with 12 points after connecting on five baskets from the field, including two three-pointers. The senior has now finished in double figures in her last nine games, a streak that started Jan. 17 against Washington.
Talisa Rhea also had 10 points in the loss. Rhea hit on a three-pointer, her team-leading 54th of the season.
The Beavers shot 30.4 percent from the field compared to 53.3 percent for Stanford. The Cardinal grabbed 39 rebounds to Oregon State's 30. Of the 30 rebounds for the Beavers, 16 were offensively, which matched the Cardinal's.
Stanford, did dominate, however, in points in the paint. Led by 15 apiece from Jayne Appel and Nnemkadi Ogwumike, the Cardinal scored 48 points in the paint compared to 12 for the Beavers. Stanford also got 27 points from its bench compared to 13 for OSU.
Oregon State fell to 15-9 overall this season and 6-8 in Pacific-10 Conference play. Stanford, meanwhile, improved to 21-4 overall and 12-1 in league games.
Stanford pulled away late in the first half for a 12-point lead going into the second half with a 35-23 advantage. Oregon State shot 41.7 percent from the field while Stanford was at a 50 percent clip.
Rhea led the Beavers with seven first-half points - the final three coming on a three-pointer - and Davis, Mitchell and Kassandra McCalister all posted four.
Oregon State plays its final Pacific-10 Conference regular season road game Saturday at No. 6 California. The Beavers and Golden Bears square off in a 6 p.m. PT tip at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley. The game will be nationally televised on FSN. It will also be broadcast on the radio in Corvallis on KLOO 1340-AM.
