Softball Falls in Classic Closer to Georgia Tech

Cathedral City, Calif. - The Oregon State softball team (7-8) was held scoreless as it fell 6-0 to Georgia Tech (8-5) in the Cathedral City Classic closer on Sunday morning.


Two Oregon State batters earned singles with sophomore Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) leading off the second inning, while junior Dani Chisholm (Boring, Ore.) led off the fourth inning with an infield single. The Beavers drew three walks as well.


Both hitters advanced to scoring position on wild pitches but were left stranded as the innings closed. The third runner left on base was senior Stefanie Ewing (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who reached on a one-out fourth inning walk.


Pitcher Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) was charged with the loss after pitching 3.1 innings, facing two batters in the fourth. Freshman Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) completed the game for the Beavers.


Georgia Tech's Whitney Haller went 3-for-3, while three different Yellow Jacket hitters tallied home runs. Pitcher Tiffany Johnson earned one of those runs, while earning the complete game shutout to improve to 4-1 with eight strikeouts. Georgia Tech scored three of its runs in the third innings and the other three in the top of the seventh.


Oregon State heads to the CSUF DiMarini Invitational next, facing Cal Poly and UC Riverside on Friday, Feb. 27, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
