Sophomore Lizette Salas and freshman Lizette Salas led the second-ranked USC women's golf team by finishing tied for ninth after the first day of the Arizona-hosted 2009 Wildcat Invitational at Peninsula G.C. in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico on Sunday (Feb. 22).

USC finished at 14-over 302, tied for sixth with Duke and Tennessee. UCLA finished the first round in first at 1-under 287. ASU is second (295) with Denver third (296) and Oklahoma State tied for fourth with Tulane (299).

Song and Salas are tied for ninth at 1-over 73, six shots off the pace. Salas is after her fifth top 10 finish in as many events this season while Song is seeking her fourth top 10 mark.

Juniors Belen Mozo and Stefanie Endstrasser are tied for 45th at 6-over 78 while junior Caroline Kim is tied for 69th at 9-over 81.

Round two tees off on Monday (Feb. 23) at 8 a.m. (MST). The event concludes Tuesday.
