Breaking It Down With Bailey
Feb. 23, 2009
Our motto: The tougher it gets, the better we play. That is exactly how the weekend story goes. Five games, five very talented opponents, five very important wins.
This weekend was a huge test to see what we are made of, and we came ready and willing to conquer the task at hand. Friday we dealt with two undoubtedly good teams in Long Island University and No. 2 Florida. Just because LIU isn't a ranked team, they aren't someone to be handled lightly. We definitely kept the game interesting by giving up some runs but the 'Comeback Dawgs' just didn't back down. Once again, we got down by a couple runs and answered back right away to seal the deal.
The nightcap against Florida was one of the most mentally exhausting games of my career (I can't say what it was like for my teammates, but I'm sure most of them say the same thing). Honestly, there were so many positives in that game I don't know if I can even give you a good idea of what the game was like. It's almost like you had to be there. I don't think I'd be too far off in saying it felt like a World Series match up. The stands were packed, the lights were bright and the fans were amazing. It was such a cool experience. There were many opportunities to get things going, but some of us (ahem) got a little anxious and thank goodness it all worked out for the best! A clutch hit by a rookie and a speedster in Fleischman at second, there was no doubt in anyone's mind that we were going to score. Morgan made a HUGE play that unquestionably belonged on SportsCenter's Top 10 to gain back some momentum we needed to seal a victory (she is definitely one of the best defensive players I have ever played with, always making the big plays). Danielle once again pitched a gem. Definitely a victory that was hard fought and heartfelt.
The last three games of the weekend didn't come any easier. There is not a single game on our schedule that we can overlook. We must come out ready to go every pitch, every at bat, every game. I have so much confidence in every single one of my teammates and no matter who Coach Tarr puts on the field, I know the job will be done!
Just a little side note here, to our fans: we all want to thank you so much for your continued support of our program, without you guys we definitely wouldn't be as successful as we have been and we're really glad you guys are there!
That's all for this week, stay classy and GO DAWGS!
