Trojans Post Low Final Round Of USC Collegiate

Sophomore Matt Giles led a hard-charging USC men's golf team as it turned in the low score of the day during the final round of the 2009 USC Collegiate at the North Ranch C.C. in Westlake Village, Calif., on Tuesday (Feb. 24).
Stanford won the event at 13-under 839 (284-276-279) while BYU took second at 3-under 849 (275-287-287). Cal was third at 6-over 858 (285-286-287) and USC moved from eighth to fourth at 7-over 859 (292-292-275). The Trojans played without two-time All-American junior Jamie Lovemark, who is out approximately a month while recovering from a broken finger.
Giles, 1-under after 36 holes, fired a 5-under 66 to take fourth. He posted seven birdies on the day. Starting on the 10th hole, he was 4-under going out and 1-under coming in. It marked his fifth top 7 finish in as many events this year for the Australian native.
Sophomore Tim Sluiter used a strong final round to finish seventh at 2-under 211 (71-75-65). The event's defending individual champion carded six birdies, including three in a row on 7, 8 and 9, and eagled the par 5 12th hole. He now has three top 10 finishes this season.
USC freshman Steve Lim, playing as an individual, turned in Troy's third-best 54-hole score with a 1-under 212 (71-71-70), his best effort as a Trojan. He finished tied for eighth after a final round that included four birdies.
Senior Ryan Linton finished tied for 30th at 7-over 220 (74-75-71). His final par round included five birdies. Senior Tom Glissmeyer tied for 48th at 12-over 225 (75-73-77).Rounding out USC's team-scoring efforts was sophomore Bo DeHuff, who tied for 51st at 13-over 226 (78-75-73). He posted his best round of the tournament Tuesday thanks to three birdies and an eagle on 15.
Trojan sophomore Daniel Park and senior Gavin Reid also played individually for the Trojans. Reid tied for 46th after an 11-over 224 (78-74-72) while Park tied for 57th at 15-over 228 (75-72-81). Reid had a solid final round with a birdie against only two bogeys.
