Samaniego Wins Pac-10 One-Meter Diving Crown

Senior Marisa Samaniego is making her final Pac-10 Conference Championship won for the books as she captured the first conference crown of her career on Thursday evening. The All-American won the Pac-10 one-meter title with a season-best score of 320.85 to highlight the Bruin swim and dive team in Federal Way, WA on day two of the conference meet.

Samaniego notched the No. 2 score during prelims (296.80) then moved into first in the finals with an impressive performance on the spring board as she defeated crosstown rival Tory Ishimatsu (who scored 313.90).

Also on one-meter, freshman Alyssa Robinson competed in her first conference final, finishing eighth overall with a score of 256.05.

In swimming action, the Bruins had several athletes post lifetime-bests and NCAA qualifying swims. In the 500 free, sophomores Emily Bibb and Dani Milligan led the way swimming in the B Final. Bibb swam 4:47.08 to place 12th overall, while Milligan was 16th in a time of 4:50.68. Milligan swam 4:48.38 in the prelim rounds for a lifetime-best and NCAA mark. In the C Final, sophomore Sam Vanden Berge was 18th with a lifetime-best and NCAA B time of 4:48.41, and Alex Sullivan was 24th in a time of 4:56.02.

In the 200 IM, sophomore Lauren Hall (2:00.81, 21st) and senior Kristen Fischer (2:01.23, 22nd) both swam lifetime-bests in the C Final.

Senior Anna Poteete swam a season-best and NCAA B time of 22.73 in the C Final of the 50 free, finishing 18th overall.

In the final event of the night, the 200 free relay, the team of Poteete, junior Isabell Fischer, Bibb and freshman Madison Fitzgerald finished 7th with an NCAA B time of 1:31.79.

Competition continues on Friday with the three-meter diving competition, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
