Stanford Volleyball Announces 2009 Spring Schedule

Feb. 26, 2009

Stanford, Calif. - Head Coach John Dunning and the Stanford women's volleyball team announced their spring schedule this week. The Cardinal is slated to play three scrimmages in the coming months and compete in a tournament at Santa Clara.

Stanford, which won its third-straight Pac-10 Championship and advanced to the NCAA title match in 2008, returns ten veterans to its 2009 roster. The returners are headlined by two-time All-American outside hitter Alix Klineman, a rising junior who has led the team in kills the past two seasons, twice been named to the Final Four All-Tournament Team and was the only underclassman named to the AVCA All-America First Team in 2008.

The Cardinal also returns setter Cassidy Lichtman, a 2008 All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention recipient, along with starting libero Gabi Ailes and starting middle blocker Janet Okogbaa.

The remainder of the spring roster includes Alex Fisher, Joanna Evans, Stephanie Browne, Jessica Walker, Katherine Knox and Katherine Sebastian.

Stanford's first spring practice is set for Tuesday, March 31. The Cardinal will take on Pac-10 rival California in its first spring match on Apr. 8 at 7 p.m. in Berkeley.

Stanford will then play two contests at home, taking on Saint Mary's on April 16 at 4 p.m. and San Jose State on April 23 at 7 p.m. Both matches are free and open to the public.

The Cardinal will wrap up spring play at the Santa Clara Tournament, which begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 2.
