No. 11 Stanford Blanks No. 58 Washington State For First Pac-10 Win

Feb. 27, 2009

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 11 Stanford picked up its first conference win of the year on Friday afternoon, overwhelming No. 58 Washington State 7-0 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Stanford (7-2, 1-0 Pac-10) swept all three doubles matches before surrendering only 11 games combined over the first five singles matches.

Stanford extended its winning streak at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium to an unthinkable 140 in a row (112 in the regular season). The Cardinal's last loss in a home match occurred exactly 10 years ago to the day, in the form of a 5-4 setback to No. 4 California in 1999.

The doubles point was clinched for a 1-0 lead when the duo of Logan Hansen and Jennifer Yen hung on for an 8-6 win at the No. 3 spot.

Once singles began, the Cardinal cranked out five quick and convincing straight-set victories. Lindsay Burdette cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 position, Clayton posted a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the No. 6 spot and Hilary Barte secured the match with a 6-1, 6-1 rout at the No. 1 spot.

Veronica Li assured Stanford of its third shutout of the year when she won a 10-4 third-set tiebreaker over Marina Nicolas in the final singles match of the afternoon.
