The No. 23-ranked California men's tennis team (3-4) found itself on the short end of a 6-1 tennis match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center as the Golden Bears fell to No. 7 UCLA (7-3). Cal freshman Thai Tu put the Bears on the board with his three-set victory over Amit Inbar on the sixth singles court. The loss will not count towards Pac-10 standings as the first of two meetings between Cal and UCLA. The Bruins will play in Berkeley on Saturday, March 28.

The Bears found themselves behind following doubles matches as the Bruins claimed all three to take the first point of the match. On the top court, the No. 24-ranked team of senior Geoff Chizever and sophomore Pedro Zerbini went to a tiebreaker with UCLA's Haythem Abid and Nick Meister but could not fight off the Bruin charge, falling, 7-4. Cal tried to stay close on the second court but sophomore Jonathan Dahan and senior Eoin Heavey could not fend off the attack of Matt Brooklyn and Michael Look, giving up an 8-3 win to secure the point in UCLA's favor.

Cal found itself in more of a bind as the Bruins built up a 3-0 lead with wins on court three and court one. Freshman Nick Andrews went down in straight 6-3 sets to No. 93-ranked Look on the third court before Heavey was ousted on the top court by No. 74-ranked Abid. Heavey fought hard and stayed close in the first set, losing a 7-4 tiebreaker before falling, 6-1, in the second set.

UCLA clinched the win when Chizever fell in a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Meister on court five. It was Chizever's first dual match singles match in a long time and he held up strong, staying toe-to-toe with Meister for much of the match. With the match in hand, the Bruins added two more points on the second and fourth courts. On two, Dahan fell, 6-3, 6-3, to No. 52-ranked Brooklyn and on four, sophomore Bozhidar Katsarov fell in a super tiebreaker to Holden Seguso. Tu's win came next on court six.

The Bears stay in Los Angeles to face No. 4 USC (9-2) at the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium tomorrow (Feb. 28) at 1 p.m. For live scoring, please visit
