Arizona Set to Compete in the Braveheart Classic

March 2, 2009

TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona’s Men’s Golf Team will take on the 18 team field in the Braveheart Classic, hosted by UC Riverside. The tournament is played at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif., a par 72, 6,960 course. The 54 hole tournament will be played over two days: two rounds Monday, and the final round on Tuesday. The dual round affair is scheduled to commence with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. PST tomorrow; the second round will start at 1:30.

The Cats are coming off a solid third place finish in their last outing. The impressive finish in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate is muffled a bit by the sour fact that the Wildcats lead the tournament by six stokes heading into the final round, but couldn’t hold on for the victory. Tarquin MacManus finished second individually. Likewise, his great finish was a bittersweet one; he was leading the event heading into the final round as well.

The field includes: Arizona, Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Gonzaga, Kansas State, LaVerne, Long Beach State, Loyola-Chicago, Loyola Marymount, Missouri-Kansas City, Oral Roberts, Oregon, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, Tennessee, UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, Utah State.

Arizona’s line up will be MacManus, Tyler Neal, Jonathan Khan, Brad Nicholson and Rich Saferian. Philip Bagdade will play as an individual.
