T.J. Houshmandzadeh Signs with Seahawks
March 2, 2009
Multiple sources are indicating that former Oregon State standout wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh has signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks.
Houshmandzadeh, who lettered in 1999 and 2000 for the Beavers, was a 2001 seventh round NFL Draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals. He spent eight years with the Bengals compiling 507 receptions, 5,782 yards and 37 touchdowns. In 2006 and 2007 he eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for receptions. He has led Cincinnati in receptions the last three seasons and in 2007 co-led the NFL with 112 catches. He played in the Pro Bowl following the ’07 season.
As a Beaver, Houshmandzdeh was quarterback Jonathan Smith’s favorite target in the 2000 Pac-10 Co-Championship season. T.J. snagged 48 receptions for seven touchdowns, including two scores in the Beavers’ 38-9 win over Washington State. He also was OSU’s top punt returner in 2000.
Houshmandzadeh joins two other Beavers on the current Seahawks roster, tight end Joe Newton and receiver Mike Hass. Former Beaver running back Yvenson Bernard was on the team’s practice squad last season as well.
