Mark Canha Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. - California sophomore outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha has been named the Pac-10 Baseball Player of the Week and Arizona State junior right-handed pitcher Mike Leake has been named Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 23 - Mar. 1, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Canha went 9-for-20 (.450) last week in Cal's wins over Vanderbilt (4-3) and at Santa Clara (12-2), and in its three-game sweep at Long Beach State. The San Jose, Calif., native totaled seven runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and five RBI for the Golden Bears. Canha posted a .850 slugging percenage and .500 on-base percentage. For the year, the sophomore is hitting .419, eighth in the Pac-10, and holds a .806 slugging percentage (4th in the Conference) and a .455 on-base percentage.
This is the first player of the week honor for Canha and the 43rd all-time for Cal.
Due to rain, Cal's (6-2) next home contest has been moved from Tuesday, March 3 to Wednesday, March 4 at 1:30 p.m. when the Bears host Bay Area opponent San Francisco (3-6) in a non-conference game at Evans Diamond.
After Wednesday's game, Cal will travel to No. 21-ranked University of Arkansas for a three-game series Mar. 6-8 (6 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 1 p.m. CST), followed by a single game at No. 16-ranked Oklahoma on Monday, March 9 (12 p.m. CST).
