Renee Welty Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--ARIZONA STATE senior catcher Renee Welty was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Welty, a native of Gilbert, Ariz., hit .600 over a three-game span, helping the Sun Devils win the Wilson/DeMarini Invitational tournament title.  The senior made the most of her five at bats, belting two home runs and driving home four batters.  In her one-for-one performance against New Mexico State, Welty homered on her solo plate appearance bolstering the Sun Devils to the 6-2 victory.  Welty finished the weekend slugging 1.800, with two of her three hits knocked out the park.
This marks the first career Pac-10 honor for Welty and the 58th all-time for the Sun Devils.
