Track & Field Heads To NCAA Last Chance And Ben Brown Invite
March 4, 2009
The UCLA track and field teams will compete at both the UW Last Chance Qualifier in Seattle, WA and the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton this weekend as several athletes look to cement their place at the NCAA Indoor Championships, while others begin the outdoor season.
The men's team, ranked 21st in the latest indoor polls, will send seven athletes to Seattle - miler Marlon Patterson; vaulters Dustin DeLeo, Bobby Talley, Casey DiCesare and Greg Woepse; and shot putters Nick Robinson and Bo Taylor. Patterson, Woepse, DeLeo, Robinson and Taylor all have NCAA provisional marks in their respective events and will look to improve those qualifiers this weekend. DiCesare and Talley stand just 1.25 inches shy of the provisional qualifier in the vault.
The women's team will send a squad of 14 athletes to the indoor meet as three will look to improve upon their NCAA rankings - vaulter Katy Viuf, 800m runner Krishna Curry and long jumper Danielle Watson.
As some athletes continue the indoor season, the majority of the team now shifts their focus to outdoors on Friday and Saturday at the Ben Brown Invitational. Close to 40 men and 20 women are slated to compete in Fullerton.
