Soni Named Pac-10 Swimmer Of The Month

March 5, 2009

USC senior Rebecca Soni has been named Pac-10 Swimmer of the Month for February, the Pac-10 announced Wednesday (March 4).

Soni put on a spectacular performance at the 2009 Pac-10 Championships in Federal Way, Wash., last week. The Plainsboro, N.J., native won titles in the 100y and 200y breast and helped the 400y medley relay team to victory with a time of 3:31.75.

Soni set an NCAA record in the 100y breast with a time of 58.10. Her time of 2:04.75 in the 200y breast registered an American record, almost a second faster than the previous record of 2:05.73 set by Stanford standout Tara Kirk at the U.S. Open in March of 2006. All times were also USC records, of course. For her efforts, Soni earned the Pac-10 Swimmer of the Meet honors.

This marks the fourth monthly honor for Soni, the most ever by a Pac-10 women's swimmer, and the fifth Women's Swimmer of the Month all-time for USC.
