Freshman Josh Joiner became a Pac-10 finalist in the 200y fly while sophomore Dillon Connolly broke the school record in the 200y breaststroke to highlight the final night for USC at the 2009 Pac-10 Championships on Saturday (March 7) at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif.

USC finished fourth overall. Stanford took first (918.5) and was followed by Cal (866), Arizona (647), USC (396), Washington (309) and Arizona State (238.5).

In the 200y fly, Joiner qualified for the final by dropping more than a second of his season-best to 1:45.84, good for an NCAA `B' cut. He went 1:46.10 in the final to finish seventh overall.

Connolly won the consolation final of the 200y breast in 1:55.47, shattering Ryosuke Imai's 2001 record of 1:56.24. His time would've been good for seventh in the final. Also in the 200y breast, senior Vanni Mangoni was 17th (1:58.29) and senior Kazu Miyahara was 18th (2:00.12).

Junior James Martin is now the seventh-fastest Trojan ever in the 200y back after a personal-best and NCAA consideration `B' cut 1:44.59 in prelims. He finished 14th after a consolation final swim of 1:46.52. Freshman T.J. Auner dropped three seconds off his season-best in prelims (to 1:48.67) and lowered it further in the consolation final, finishing 16th in 1:47.36.

Freshman Jeff Daniels led five Trojans finishers in the 100y free, finishing 14th in a personal best 43.81. Jake Grosser was 15th (44.38) after a personal best 43.92 in prelims. Junior Zoltan Povazsay was 17th (43.98) in a season best, sophomore Buddy Turner was 19th (44.52) and sophomore Luke Tanner was 20th (44.56) after a season-best 44.39 in prelims.

In the 1650y free, freshman Julian Bonse topped the Trojan efforts in ninth (15:25.07). Sophomore Kevin Little was 12th (15:38.44) while freshman Colin Heinrich was 13th (15:45.40) and Evan Marcus was 14th (15:45.43). All were season-best efforts.

In the 400y free relay, USC's Daniels, Povazsay, Turner and Grosser took fourth in a season-best and NCAA consideration 2:54.39. It was just 1.24 off of Troy's school record.

Included in final team scores are diving results from last week's Men's Pac-10 Diving Championships. Scores added today came from freshman Harrison Jones' first-place finish on platform as well as a fifth-place by Steven Starks and a seventh by Greg Miller.
