Sun Devils Rev Up For Third Tournament Of 2009
March 7, 2009
The No. 10 Sun Devils look to add another championship in the Fresno Lexus Classic, hosted by Fresno State at the par-72 Belmont Country Club. Although Arizona State has won this event four times, they haven't been at the top of the podium since 1989.
In the Sun Devils third tournament of the '09 spring season, five ASU golfers will look to duplicate the success Phil Mickelson had in this tournament 20 years ago.
The line-up for the Classic will include two juniors, a pair of sophomores and one freshman. Junior Tristan Bierenbroodspot is averaging par on the year, and classmate Braxton Marquez finished third in the Jim Colbert Invitational in the fall of 2008. The sophomores are James Byrne, who finished fifth at the John Hayt Invitational two weeks ago, and Scott Pinckney. Freshman Chan Kim, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, will be playing in his first tournament of the spring.
Joining ASU in Fresno will be 19 other teams, including No. 8 Washington, BYU, Boise State, Oklahoma and San Diego State.
