Washington Last Chance Meet Results Get Acrobat Reader

Results at Ben Brown Invitational

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Hurdler Shalina Clarke and high jumper Manjula Wijesekara achieved NCAA indoor provisional marks at the Washington Last Chance Meet in Seattle, Wash. and the Trojans posted the top mark in 10 events at the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. at meets on Saturday, March 7.

Clarke, a junior, won her 60m hurdles heat with a NCAA indoor provisional qualifying time of 8.41, but ran 8.58 in the finals to place fourth. Redshirt junior Wijesekara cleared 7-2 1/4 (2.19m) in the high jump to meet the provisional standard and placed second in the event. Oscar Spurlock won the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 7.92 which was .01 seconds off the NCAA provisional mark. Also not posting qualifying indoor marks were pole vaulters redshirt juniors Derek Scott and Brysun Stately. Stately, who tried to jump with a slight injury no-heighted and Scott tied for seventh in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 16-6 (5.03m).

At the Ben Brown Invitational, the Trojans posted many impressive marks. On the men's side, redshirt junior Colin Campbell set a PR in the discus and won the event with a throw of 184-2 (56.14) which is an NCAA regional qualifying mark. Redshirt junior Aaron Dan placed third in the discus with a throw of 167-11 (51.19m).

Sophomore Trey Henderson, who is focusing exclusively on track and field now instead of splitting time with football, won the men's hammer competition with a new PR in the college weight hammer of 210-4 (64.12m). Redshirt senior Brian Wilhelm placed third with a throw of 193-4 (58.94m) and redshirt senior Mike Curiel fourth with a toss of 192-7 (58.71m). All three hammer throwers met the NCAA regional qualifying standard.

Freshman Joey Hughes won his 400m heat and post the top time on the day of 47.22. Other Trojans with top marks in the 400m included freshman Duane Walker (49.14), sophomore Josh Tennefoss (49.24) and junior Jason Price (49.25).

Freshman Blake Shaw set a new PR and posted the fastest 1500m time of 3:49.50 at Ben Brown. Senior Charles Fasi placed fourth in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 15-7 (4.75m).

For the USC women at the Ben Brown Invitational, senior Eva Orban began her 2009 season just the way she ended the 2008 NCAA season, by winning the hammer throw event. Orban came out of the blocks this season with a winning throw of 221-4 (64.47m).

Redshirt freshman Shea Wickland ran her first race for USC and her first career 10000m race and won with a time of 36:16.00. Wickland's time ranks third all-time by a USC female in the 10000m run. Sophomore Zara Lukens, who had ranked third all-time in the event by a Trojan, dropped to fourth all-time, but did set a new PR by finishing fourth with a time of 38:12.91.

Junior Myra Hasson won her heat and had the fastest 400m time on the day of 54.21. Junior Elizabeth Olear ran an 11.84 100m time for her top mark as a Trojan and the fastest on the day. The second fastest 100m belonged to freshman teammate Aareon Payne who ran 11.95.

Senior Kenisha Strong placed tied for fourth in the pole vault with a new PR of 11-7 3/4 (3.55m).

USC will be in action at the CS Northridge Invitational next week.
