BOULDER - The University of Colorado women's soccer team will open the 2009 Spring Season under the lights on Wednesday against Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. at Kittredge Field on CU's campus.
CU will then travel to Denver where they will participate in the Regis Spring event, playing a pair of short games against Regis and Ft. Lewis College on April 4. The following week, on April 11, Colorado will play host to Wyoming, Air Force and DU at Prentup Field. The Buffaloes will close out the spring schedule in Palo Alto, Calif. against CAL and San Francisco on April 18 in a spring even hosted by Stanford.
The Buffs lost six seniors at the end of the fall season, but Hempen returns 18 letterwinners, eight of which saw action as either full-time or part-time starters during the 2008 season.
The spring will be a great test for the Buffs as they learn to play without regulars Michelle Wenino, Nikki Keller, Kirstin Radlinski, Alex Cousins, Amber Bettenhausen and Gianna DeSaverio.
Colorado will be led by U-20 National Team member Nikki Marshall, one of eight future seniors and a three-time All-Big 12 and All-Region performer for the Buffs.
For those planning to attend Wednesday night's game, plan to arrive early to find a place to park in order to ensure that you arrive for the game in time. The CHASSA basketball tournament will be going on at the same time in the Coors Events Center, so plan accordingly.
