March 10, 2009
UCLA junior goalkeeper Brian Perk has led the U.S. Under-20 National Team to a berth in the 2009 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt after a 2-0 victory over El Salvador Wednesday evening at the CONCACAF Championships in Bacolet, Tobago.
The U.S. team received goals in the 31st minute and 42nd minute and held on despite playing at least one man down for the final 30 minutes of the game. The U.S. got a second red card in the 84th minute but did not conceded a goal.
The shutout was Perk's third in as many games at the CONCACAF Championships. On Mar. 6 he recorded five saves in a 3-0 win over Jamaica, and on Mar. 8, he was named the USSoccer.com Man of the Match after making six saves in a 0-0 draw with Honduras.
Amobi Okugo, who signed a letter-of-intent to play at UCLA in the fall, also saw action in the win over Jamaica.
The U.S. now advances to the semifinals against a Group B opponent to be determined.
