The University of Arizona football squad closed Wednesday's spring practice Wednesday with about 40 minutes of live scrimmage and the head coach was pretty pleased.

Coach Mike Stoops said he was impressed with the quarterbacking, 'and we have some playmakers on offense, you can see that.'

The quarterbacks -- sophomores Matt Scott, Nick Foles and Bryson Beirne -- combined for 15 completions on 20 attempts in the 36 live plays run at the end of practice. Foles was the only one to lead a scoring drive -- a 35-yard TD run on an end-around by Bug Wright, but each had decent success against what Stoops says is a good defense.

'Our defensive depth is good, and we have a chance to be special,' he told reporters afterward. Among those with eye-catching plays were linebacker Sterling Lewis with a big hit on tight end Rob Gronkowski and end Apaiata Tuihalamaka with the lone sack. But Stoops liked the play of his DBs, as well.

The Cats practice Thursday and then take 10 days off until March 23 during the University's Spring Break.

The annual Spring Game will be held Saturday, April 4.
