THIS WEEK: The Washington State University baseball team (3-8) travels to Southern California for a three-game series at Long Beach State, March times are 6:30 p.m., Friday, 2 p.m., Saturday and 1 p.m., Sunday.

ABOUT LONG BEACH STATE: The 49ers are 4-7 and have won two straight...Long Beach State is 1-4 at home in 2009...was among schools receving votes in ESPN/USA Today, Collegiate Baseball and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason polls...owns 1-5 mark against Pacific-10 Conference schools this season, losing two out of three meetings with USC and being swept in a three-game set with California...Devin Lohman leads Long Beach State with a .390 batting average...opponents are averaging 7.0 runs per game...all but four members of the 35-man roster are native Californians.

RECORD AGAINST LONG BEACH STATE: Washington State has lost nine of the previous 12 meetings with the 49ers...series dates back to 1988 when the Cougars won 15-3 and 6-5 in Fresno, Calif...Steve Webb had three hits, including a home run and drove in four during the first meeting and John Olerud pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts in the second encounter...Cougars lost 10-9 and 6-4 before winning 9-7 in Long Beach during the 1995 1996, 49ers swept four games, including a three-game series at home (6-2, 19-0, 9-8) as well as a game by a 6-2 count in Seattle...Long Beach State swept a three-game series in Southern California in 2003 (7-1, 11-0, 9-4) in 2003.
