Second Round Leaves Men's Golf 13th at Southern Highlands

March 14, 2009

LAS VEGAS - The second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship saw the Golden Bears fall back four spots in the field Saturday, dropping from 9th to 13th (+27). Senior co-captain Michael Jensen fired an even-par 72 to move up 10 spots into a tie for 30th as an individual with 18 holes to play.

Oklahoma State climbed five spots as a team on the strength of tournament leader Morgan Hoffman's 10-under 62 and now stands first at -15.

Jensen was California's best golfer Saturday, sinking five birdies and scoring -1 on the front nine. One stroke behind overall is sophomore Stephen Hale, who tempered four bogies with two birdies in his second round.

Rounding out the team scoring for the Bears on Saturday was senior George Gandranata, who scored two birdies on the front nine and finished with a 79, and Eric Mina, who made it to the clubhouse at 80, two strokes ahead of junior John Murphy. With the top-4 scores counting in each day's team total, Murphy's 82 did not count toward the final Saturday team total of 305.

Play resumes with the third round at 8 a.m. PT Sunday with tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 holes. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
