FULLERTON, Calif. -- For the second year in a row, Nikki Nemitz shut down the potent Arizona offensive attack, limiting No. 12 Arizona to two hits in a 4-0 win for the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines in both teams' final game at the Judi Garman Classic on Sunday afternoon.

The junior Nemitz (12-3) went the distance, striking out 11 and issuing only two walks.

In the same tournament in 2008, Nemitz also allowed two hits and shutout the Cats, 2-0.

Jennifer Martinez (3-1) gave up three earned runs on 11 hits, handing out a walk. The native of nearby La Habra, Calif. struck out five in the complete game effort.

Kristen Arriola nabbed a one-out single for Arizona in the first, and advanced to second on stolen base. But Nemitz took down both Jenae Leles and Stacie Chambers on strikes to strand the freshman in scoring position.

Michigan tacked on an unearned run with two outs in the top of the second, thanks to a Stephanie Kirkpatrick single that scored pinch runner Kristen Larsen from second. Pitcher Nemitz had singled and advanced on an error to earlier in the inning.

The Wolverines put another run on the board the next inning on a double steal attempt with one out. With runners on the corners, Amanda Chidester was tagged out at second, but leadoff hitter Bree Evans beat the throw home to open a 2-0 UM margin. Banister caught a fly ball at the warning track to end the half.

Stacie Chambers was hit to put a runner on with one out in the UA fourth, but Sam Banister lined into a inning-ending double play as Chambers was caught returning to first.

UM added another one more in the sixth and seventh; Kirkpatrick's second RBI single of the day that scored Maggie Viefhaus, who had led off the inning with a double to build a 3-0 margin, then Amanda Chidester singled in Bree Evans in the final frame.

Lini Koria hit a single up the middle with two outs in the Arizona seventh to show some signs of life, but Laine Roth went down on strikes to end the game.

Up Next: Arizona will practice on Monday at 3 p.m. before heading to Las Cruces, N.M. on Tuesday, in preparation for a doubleheader with New Mexico State on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
