Cougar Baseball Concludes Road Trip at Pepperdine

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University baseball team (5-9) completes a five-game road trip with a two-game series at Pepperdine, March times are 3 p.m., Tuesday and noon, game of the series was originally scheduled for 3 p.m., but was moved to accommodate WSU's travel plans.

ABOUT PEPPERDINE: The Waves are 11-5, including a 6-1 mark at home...ranked in all four national polls, 17th (Baseball America), 19th (NCBWA), 21st (ESPN/USA Today) and 28th (Collegiate Baseball)...knocked off Pacific-10 schools USC (10-1, Feb. 25) and UCLA (5-4, March 3) on the road...six of the Waves' first 16 games have been decided by a run and another three have been two-run contests...Pepperdine is 4-2 in one-run games...junior Colin Rooney leads the Waves with a .531 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 12 runs batted in...Pepperdine is batting .279 as a team and has a 2.88 earned run average.

RECORD AGAINST PEPPERDINE: Washington State is 4-5 against Pepperdine in a series that dates to the inaugural encounter, May 28, 1976, the Cougars blasted four home runs, including three off future big-league hurler Mike Scott, and beat Pepperdine 8-2 at home in the opener of the NCAA West Regional...WSU went on to win the regional to advance to the College World Series...Waves won 6-2, March 21, 1979 in Fresno, Calif...a five-run seventh inning provided the Cougars a 5-4 victory at Pepperdine, March 11, 1986...Waves swept a three-game series, Feb. 22-24, 1996 (4-0, 4-3, 5-3)...during the 2006 season, teams split a pair of games in College Station, Texas at the Texas A&M Continental Express Classic...Pepperdine won 7-2, Feb. 22 and the Cougars captured a 4-2 win in seven innings, Feb. 25 on the strength of Brandon Hundt's four-hitter...WSU scored six times in the top of the first and won 9-8 at Pepperdine, March 15, 2004 in the last meeting between the schools.

UP NEXT: After the series at Pepperdine, the Cougars return home for a three-game series, March 18-20 against South Dakota times are 5:30 p.m. (Friday), 2 p.m. (Saturday) and noon (Sunday).
