Box Score

Corvallis, Ore. – Junior Dani Chisholm (Boring, Ore.) hit the game winning RBI single to boost the Oregon State softball team to a 2-1 win over Oregon in the first game of the Civil War series and to take its home opener in front of a crowd of 478 on Saturday afternoon.

The single was Chisholm’s only hit of the game, dropping down the left field line in the fifth inning, scoring freshman Nicole Luchanski (Edmonton, Alberta) from second. Luchanski was pinch running for senior DeAnn Young (Camarillo, Calif.), who reached on a one-out single to left field. Junior Alana Ford (Chula Vista, Calif.) advanced Luchanski to second on her two-out single to right field.

“It was a great game, a great Pac-10 game,” head coach Kirk Walker said. “Both teams played well and both teams clutched up when they had runners on. I thought both pitchers threw really nice ball games. Every win is a great win, and every Pac-10 win is a fantastic win.”

Junior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) pitched the complete game, picking up her sixth win of the season and fanning a pair.

Oregon State scored its other run early on a full count home run over left field by senior Paige Lowe (Tustin, Calif.). Lowe fended off nine pitches, fouling off the last three, before finding the one she wanted that she lifted over the fence, giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead after one inning.

The Ducks’ Blair Williamson led the Oregon offense, going 2-for-3 with a single and a triple, the only extra-base hit of the game. Williamson also earned the team’s only RBI with her triple, scoring Lindsey Chambers, who reached on single in the top of the fifth.

Pitcher Sam Skillingstad was charged with the complete game loss, making her record 6-6 on the season.

Oregon State improves to 14-13, 1-0 Pac-10, while Oregon falls to 8-17, 0-1 Pac-10.

Oregon State begins a spring break seven-game stretch on Monday in a doubleheader at Portland State. The games are slated to begin at 2:00 p.m., at Erv Lind Stadium.
