USC Shows Well at Trojan Invitational

LOS ANGELES, CALIF.- USC hosted the Trojans Invitational at Loker Stadium on Saturday (March 21). The meet featured national power Texas A&M, Washington State, CSUN, Fresno State, CSUF and SMU (women). Wind was a factor in some of the events, but USC showed strong and finished well in many different events.All American Corey White made his season debut in dominating fashion, finishing with a 258-04 (78.74m).
In the 3000m race sophomore Zsofia Erdelyi finished with a career best time of 9:38.66, which bettered her USC record in the event.In pole vault, redshirt junior Derek Scott took first with a new personal record of 17-2.75 (5.25m). Brandon Estrada finished right behind Scott in second, 16-6.75 (5.05m).
In the men's 4x100 relay, Usc 'B' squad, which consisted of Dijon Morrisette, Scott DeYoung, Sean Jackson and Jason Price finished with a time of 42.21 in fourth place. Texas A&M's 4x100 relay team won the race with a blistering time of 39.32. USC's `A' squad did not finish.
In the men's 1500m run, senior Irek Sekretarski took first with a time of 3:47.36.
Freshman Dalilah Muhammad turned out another strong performance, finishing in second in the 400m hurdles at 59.01, a season best for the freshman from New York.
All-American Shalina Clarke continued her success with a third place finish in the 100m hurdles at 13.69. In the 400m hurdles, Clarke earned another third place finish at 61.06 which was a season best, behind teammate Muhammad who finished second.
Sophomore Oscar Spurlock took second in the men's 110m high hurdles with a time of 14.06.
Freshmen Joey Hughes finished in first with a time of 46.83 in the 400m.
Junior Myra Hasson finished second in the 400m and came in at 54.31.
In a close 100m race, junior Ahmad Rashad outleaned Texas A&M's Gerald Phiri at the finish to take first with a time of 10.43.
Freshmen Frida Flodstrom came in third in the 800m with a time of 2:11.17.
On the men's side of the 800m race, freshman Blake Shaw looked strong, finishing in first at 1:51.95.
On the men's side, Palmer, Matthew Palmer finished in fourth in the 200m with a time of 21.65.
USC's 'A' squad of Hasson, Olear, Woods and Muhammad took first in the women's 400x4 relay with a time of 3:41.57.
In the men's 400x4, the combination of Nate Anderson, Joey Hughes, Jason Price and Duane Walker was up there with Texas A&M the entire race and finished in second, one second behind with a time of 3:09.61. That bettered the team's time from the previous meet, in which they finished at 3:14.33.
Defending NCAA champion in the hammer throw, Eva Orban continued her domination in the event on Saturday with a first place finish, 218-09 (66.69m)
Redshirt junior Brysun Stately missed the school record in the pole vault, but finished in first with a 4.16m vault.
Junior Shana Woods took first in the long jump 20-02.25 (6.15m).
In the men's long jump Desmond Hamilton finished third 22-08.50 (6.92m).
Aven Wright took third in the triple jump 49-4.50 (15.05).
Marissa Minderler finished in first in the javelin section `B' 140-11 (42.95m).
Junior Chanel Fishchetti and freshman Jessica Lundin finished eleven and twelve in the 1500m, with times of 4:49.01 and 4:49.06, respectively
Sophomore Cara Bickers took second in the long jump section `B' with a jump of 17-02.00 (5.23m).
Next up for the Trojans is the Cal-Nevada Championships held in Westwood on March 28-29.
