March 23, 2009

Junction City, Ore. - The Washington State women's golf team is in eighth place after the opening round of the 15th Annual Duck Invitational at the par-72, 5,954-yard Shadow Hills Country Club.

The women played 36 holes and improved as the day went on. The Cougars posted a score of 327 during the opening round and followed up with a 312 during the second round.

The team was led by freshman Andrea Rosete who carded a two-round total of 154 (+10). Rosete was sitting in a tie for 35th after shooting an 80 in the first round, but she posted a two-over-par 74 during the afternoon round and will head into the final day in a tie for 17th.

Senior Jessica Black was more consistent throughout the day. She finished in 26th after both the first and second rounds while tallying a 79 and an 80 respectively. If Black can earn another top 25 finish it would mark the sixth of her career and put her in a tie for eighth on WSU's all-time list.

Amy Eneroth finished third for the Cougar squad. She carded a two-round total of 161 (+17) and finished the day in a tie for 36th. The senior will head into the final round only three strokes out of the top 25.

The rest of the Cougar squad included freshmen Kristen Allard and Lauren Howell, as well as junior Mandy Parsons who competed as an individual. Allard and Howell both finished with first-day totals of 167, while Parsons shot a 164.

WSU will look to improve their position during tomorrow's round which will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
