March 23, 2009

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's gymnastics team has earned a No. 1 seed to the NCAA South Central Regional in Fayetteville, Ark., on April 4.

The Cardinal, ranked No. 4 in the country, will be one of six teams to compete at Barnhill Arena at the University of Arkansas. The others are (by seed): No. 2 Arkansas, No. 3 Michigan, No. 4 Arizona, No. 5 Southern Utah, and No. 6 Arizona State. This is one of six regionals across the country, involving 36 teams.

The top two teams in each regional advance to the NCAA Championships April 16-18 in Lincoln, Neb.

At the NCAAs, there will be two preliminary-round sessions of six teams each on April 16. The top three in each session advance to the Super Six, the women's gymnastics equivalent of basketball's Final Four. The NCAA team champion will then be determined.

Stanford will be seeking its fifth regional title, having won in 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2007.
