March 25, 2009
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Sophomore guard Faihza Hill and senior forward Amina Njonkou were each named to the 2009 Pac-10 Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention team, announced by commissioner Tom Hansen.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and either be a starter or significant contributor.
Hill, a walk-on to the Arizona program midway through the 2007-08 season, saw herself thrust into the starting lineup midway through the 2008-09 campaign. The molecular and cellular biology major carries a 3.17 GPA and appeared in 28 games for the Wildcats, averaging 2.5 points while connecting on 35.5 percent of her three-point attempts.
A two-time all-Academic honorable mention selection, Njonkou earned her bachelor of arts in Spanish in December of 2008 with an overall grade point average of 3.22. She also plans to complete another degree in Family Studies and Human Development.
Njonkou was also named to the all-Pac-10 honorable mention squad for the second-straight season. The only four-year player on the Wildcats this season, she finished her Arizona career 3rd all-time in rebounds per game (6.8) and 5th all-time in total rebounds (690) after leading the team in that category during her sophomore and junior seasons. She also finished just 13 points of 1,000 for her career.
