Box Score

Corvallis, Ore. – Senior Paige Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) nailed two of the team’s seven home runs as the Oregon State softball team shut out the Seattle Redhawks, 8-0, in each of the games in Wednesday’s doubleheader at the OSU Softball Complex.

We had a lot of offensive production from many players today,” head coach Kirk Walker said. “The pitching came through as well, but it was the bats that carried the day.

Lowe went a perfect 2-for-2 in the first game before her two long balls in the second game. On the day, she went 4-for-5 with four RBI and four runs with a .800 batting average and 2.000 slugging percentage. Her sister, McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.), hit .667, going 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.

The Beavers (16-13) scored early in the first game, racking up four runs in the first inning behind senior Stefanie Ewings (Scottsdale, Ariz.) three-run shot over left center. Junior Dani Chisholm (Boring, Ore.) tallied the first run for the team, scoring on a sacrifice bunt, turned throwing error by third baseman Jamie Foote, after leading off with a double.

Sophomore Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) racked up her fourth home run of the season on a homer over left center, scoring P. Lowe, who reached on a seven-pitch walk to give Oregon State a 6-0 lead after three. Back-to-back singles by freshman Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.) and P. Lowe drove in the other two runs the Beavers needed in the bottom of the fourth before Oregon States 22nd double play of the season ended the first game of the pair.

In a quick game two that lasted just over an hour, the Beavers scored another pair of early runs on P. Lowes first long ball after Chisholm reached on a first pitch single. Oregon State added four more in the fourth inning with Ewing leading off with a first pitch double to right field. Senior Cristy Hatton (Tigard, Ore.) came in to pinch run, but senior DeAnn Young (Camarillo, Calif.) cleared the bases on her shot down the left line that bounced back into the field off the foul pole.

Two batters later, freshman Nikki Chandler (Houston, Texas) belted one over left field. Pinch hitting, junior Katelyn Miller (Camarillo, Calif.) made it back-to-back with a homer over left center to put the Beavers ahead 6-0 after four.

Freshman Mary Claire Brenner (Portland, Ore.) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the fifth, scoring senior Kellie Roberts (Stayton, Ore.), who was pinch running for Roderfeld. Roderfeld nailed a 1-0 double to left center after P. Lowes second home run.

Freshman pitcher Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) earned her ninth win of the season in the first game of the doubleheader, throwing a three-hitter with four strikeouts on 18 batters faced. Junior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) threw the complete second game, earning win No. 7 on the season, fanning three and scattering five hits.

Seattle (8-13) was led by designated player Lisa Hill, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a pair of singles. Pitchers Kelsey Reynolds and Hannah Klein were both charged with a complete-game loss.

Oregon State heads to the desert to face No. 11 Arizona first on Friday at 7:00 p.m., before heading to Tempe for back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday against No. 6 Arizona State. The games against the Sun Devils are scheduled for 7:00 and 12:00 p.m.
