The No. 8-ranked California women's tennis team (12-4, 3-1 Pac-10) bounced back from a tough loss a night ago to defeat No. 9 UCLA (13-5, 1-2 Pac-10) today at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the win, the Golden Bears also avenged a loss to the Bruins in last year's NCAA championship match. No. 22-ranked senior Bojana Bobusic clinched the win for the Bears as she defeated Nina Pantic at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2.

The Cal women found themselves on edge during doubles matches as the top two courts split decisions. No. 7-ranked sophomore Mari Andersson and freshman Jana Juricova claimed an 8-3 win over No. 2-ranked Andrea Remynse and Yasmin Schnack at the top court but the Bruins responded with an 8-3 win of their own on court two as No. 46-ranked Carling Seguso and Stephanie Wetmore defeated No. 9-ranked sophomore Marina Cossou and senior Claire Ilcinkas.

With the doubles point hanging in the balance, the Bears tipped the scales in their direction as Bobusic and freshman Stephany Chang fought out a tough tiebreaker with Ashley Joelson and Maya Johansson at No. 3 doubles to walk away with a big 9-8 win and the go-ahead point in the match.

Into singles play, No. 17 Juricova wasted no time putting Cal up by two points as she made short work of No. 16-ranked Schnack at the top court, 6-1, 6-1. It was Juricova's 29th win of the year. Down a ways at court three, No. 38-ranked Ilcinkas got a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 80 Johansson. Bobusic sealed the deal next as she took a 6-4, 6-2 win over Pantic at court four.

With the match decided, Joelson tacked up UCLA's only point of the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win against senior Marion Ravelojaona. Chang was next off court as she defeated Seguso at No. 6 singles. Chang won the first set, 6-2 but surrendered a 6-1 set in the second. Stuck in a super tiebreaker, Chang and Seguso were knotted at 13-all before Chang pulled out the 15-13 win. Last off court, No. 75 Andersson walked away with a big 6-2, 7-5 win over No. 45 Remynse at court two in a successful return after two matches away with the flu.

The Bears will return to Berkeley for the remainder of their matches as they close out the season with a five-match home-stand. Cal will face Arizona State on Friday, April 3 at 1:30 p.m. before taking on Arizona in a noon match on Saturday, April 4. Please check for more details.
