Ali Win The High Jump Title At The Cal-Nevada Championships

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Nia Ali won the women's high jump, Elizabeth Olear placed third in the women's 200m dash and Brandon Estrada tied for third in the men's pole vault to lead the Trojans in the final day of action at the Cal-Nevada Championships held on March 28 on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif.
The junior Ali matched her career best of 5-8 3/4 (1.75m) which is also tied for the 10th-best jump all-time by a Trojan female. Ali did not miss a jump all day until clinching the competition, then missed three times at 1.81m. Her clearance of 1.75m qualifies her for the NCAA West Regional later this season. Junior Shana Woods tied for sixth in the event with a clearance of 5-3 (1.63m).
Olear ran a season-best 23.91 to place third in the women's 200m dash. The junior had the top qualifying time of 23.92 yesterday.
Also on the track to the Trojans, junior Chanel Fischetti placed 14th in the women's 1,500m race with a time of 4:43.56, setting a PR for the second consecutive week. Junior Katherine Ellis placed 16th in the same race with a time of 4:45.95.
Estrada matched his season best with a clearance of 17-0 3/4 (5.20m) to tie for third in the men's pole vault. Fellow redshirt junior Derek Scott tied for sixth in the pole vault at a height of 16-6 3/4 (5.05m). Senior Charles Fasi matched a season and career best with a clearance of 15-7 (4.75m) to finish 10th.
None of the Trojan throwers had their best day of the season as redshirt junior Colin Campbell fouled out in the men's discus and freshman Ashley Pyka finished 20th (127-8) and senior Katalin Mate 21st (127-3) in the women's discus. Also, Mate took 12th in the women's shot put (46-9 3/4), while sophomore Marissa Minderler finished 13th (41-5 1/4).
