BERKELEY - The No. 12 Cal softball team did not disappoint a capacity crowd of 600 fans at Levine-Fricke Field with a triumphant 9-5 win over the fourth-ranked UCLA Bruins on Sunday afternoon. The win by Cal also snapped UCLA's winning streak of 71 straight games when they score first.

The Bears (25-9, 2-1) return to action this weekend at Oregon on Friday and two games at Oregon State on Saturday and Sunday.

'This was another big win for us against one of the best team's in the nation,' said senior Gina Leomiti. 'It was good to carry our momentum from yesterday and keep the bats alive today. Hopefully we can continue to improve and get ready for a tough weekend at the Oregon schools.'

Cal cranked out three home runs on the afternoon - Leomiti, Elia Reid and Vernae Sevilla.

Leomiti, Sanoe Kekahuna, Reid and Sevilla all scored two runs as well on the afternoon. Taylor Kelly had a season-high three RBI.

Down 1-0 after an inning of play, Cal took the lead and never relinquished it after putting up two runs in the bottom of the second. Reid and Sevilla produced back-to-back singles before a double steal was called placing them at third and second base respectively. Kelly then delivered a soft tapper to right field to plate Reid. Two batters later, Valerie Arioto stroked a single to left field to score Sevilla.

Cal used the long ball in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead. Elia Reid absolutely smoked a two-run home run (after Kekahuna reached on a single to left field) over the center field wall. She was followed by Sevilla, who cranked a solo shot in the same exact location as Reid's home run.

The Bears added another three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it an 8-1 game. Kelly keyed the inning after she laced a two-run single to center field, plating both Kekahuna and Leomiti.

UCLA made things interesting in the top of the fifth with four runs, including a three-run home run from Julie Burney, helping trim the lead to 8-5.

Leomiti helped Cal keep the Bruins at Bay when she clocked a solo home run in the fifth inning to push the lead to 9-5.
