PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University men's basketball senior Aron Baynes has been selected to play in the Hershey's College All-Star Game, Friday, April 3, as part of the Final Four festivities, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Tuesday.
The game, sponsored by the NABC, will be played at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. The contest features two teams of the nation's finest college seniors and will tip-off at 1:35 p.m. PDT (4:35 p.m. local time) Friday. Baynes will represent the Hershey's All-Stars and will face off against the Reese's All-Stars.
Baynes's Hershey's Team will take on the Reese's Team. The Cairns, Australia-native will join countryman Luke Nevill (Utah), and the Pacific-10 Conference's most improved player, Justin Dentmon (Washington) on the Hershey's team. They, along with seven other standouts from across the country, will be coached by former Arkansas head coach Nolan Richardson and Missouri's Mike Anderson.
The frontcourt for the Reese's Team will offer a familiar look for Baynes as he will match up against Gonzaga's Josh Heytvelt and UCLA's Alfred Aboya. Also competing against Baynes is former WSU guard Josh Akognon from Cal State Fullerton. The Reese's team is coached by Bruce Weber from Illinois and Purdue's Matt Painter.
A two-year starter for the Cougs, Baynes finished second on the team in scoring this season (12.7 points per game) and tied for third last season (10.4 ppg). He became the 30th player in WSU history to exceed 1,000 points for his career, finishing with 1,064. Baynes also became the 11th Cougar to surpass 600 rebounds as he finished with 653. He led the Cougars with 43 blocked shot this season to move into a seventh-place tie with Kyle Weaver with 93 career blocks. Baynes finished his career with the eighth best field goal percentage all time (.546).
Former WSU student-athlete Robbie Cowgill played in an all-star game sponsored by the NABC last season.
