March 31, 2009
Senior Tom Glissmeyer earned his first medalist honors as a Trojan, tying for first place to lead USC men's golf team to second place after a 36-hole opening day at the 2009 Morris Williams Intercollegiate at the University of Texas G.C. in Austin, Texas, on Monday (March 30).
USC, which saw the return of two-time All-American junior Jamie Lovemark (broken finger), finished third at 39-over 891 (291-293-307). Oklahoma State (863) took first, Arkansas was second (888) while host Texas (896) was fourth.
Glissmeyer, whose best finish this year was third and his best finish as a Trojan was a tie for second last season, carded a final round 2-over to finish at 1-under 212 (69-70-73). He was 3-over on the front 9, but finished the back 9 at 1-under to secure a share of the individual title. Oklahoma State's Morgan Hoffman tied Glissmeyer for first and needed birdies on 15 and 17 to do it.
Sophomore Tim Sluiter tied for seventh at 8-over 221 (72-74-75). He had four birdies on the day and was par over the final 16 holes after opening at 4-over through the first two holes.
Sophomore Matt Giles finished outside the top 10 for the first time this season, tying for 32nd at 16-over 229 (73-75-81).
Senior Ryan Linton tied for 37th at 18-over 230 (77-74-79) while Lovemark, recovering from a broken finger and playing in his first event in almost two months, tied for 67th at 22-over 235 (78-77-80).
