Eight Swimmers Earn Academic Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Eight Oregon State women swimmers were recognized by the Pacific-10 Conference, announced today by Commissioner Tom Hanson.
Brittney Iverson, who hails from Corvallis, is a junior majoring in biology. During the 2008-09 season, Iverson moved into seventh on the Oregon State all-time list in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.19. She also moved into third in the 200 individual medley, 2:01.29, and in the 400 individual medley, 4:18.52. She also won five dual events in the 200 individual medley on the season. Iverson also was named Everyday Champion by Oregon State athletics. This is the second first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honor for Iverson.
Ginny Omundson, a senior co-captain from Wilsonville, is majoring in nutrition science. Omundson was named an Everyday Champion by Oregon State athletics during the 2008-09 season for her hard work in the classroom, the pool and in the community. She also set new personal records in the 50 freestyle, 25.92, 100 freestyle, 55.37, 200 freestyle, 1:59.37 and in the 1,650 freestyle, 17:43.15. This will be her first first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honor.
Kayla Rawlings, a senior co-captain who hails from South Surrey, B.C., is majoring in exercise and sports science. During the 2008-09 season, Rawlings qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 butterfly, making her second appearance to the championships. She moved onto the Oregon State all-times list into eighth in the 500 freestyle, 4:58.93, ninth in the 1,000 freestyle, 10:21.77, third in the 100 butterfly, 54.55 and third in the 200 butterfly, 1:57.51. Rawlings also won 15 dual events during the season. This marks Rawlings' third Pac-10 All-Academic honor.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
