Pac-10 Challenge Presented by Windermere Results
April 2, 2009
Stanford Rowing hosted the seventh annual Pac-10 Challenge presented by Windermere Real Estate last weekend at Redwood Shores in Redwood City. The event kicked off the spring rowing season for many Pac-10 squads, both male and female.
The two-day regatta and community festival featured more than 114 crew races between the nation's top universities as well as more than 400 club and high school rowers. Athletes competed in two days of Henley-style racing, a one-on-one or a two-boat race used for competition at the famous Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, England.
Drawing in excess of 600 athletes and countless spectators, the Pac-10 Challenge is one of the most anticipated rowing events on the West Coast. In addition to STANFORD University, visiting teams included Clemson, Gonzaga, Northeastern, Ohio State, Orange Coast, Princeton, Saint Mary's, UC San Diego, Santa Clara, UC Davis, UCLA, USC, Virginia and Wisconsin as well as an exhibition row featuring National Team and Olympic hopefuls from the CALIFORNIA Rowing Center. High school crews Berkeley High School, Los Gatos, Marin, Newport, Pacific and St. Ignatius also raced head to head.Courtesy of gostanford.com.
