Pac-10 Q&A: Amanda Fink, USC Tennis

April 3, 2009

My goals for the rest of this season are...
My goals for this season are to win a team Pac-10 title and perform well in the individual Pac-10 Championships (The Ojai), along with a goal of performing well for both team and idividual titles in the NCAA championships.

On my iPod is...
On my iPod is Maroon 5, James Morrison, The Soundtrack to Wicked and Elton John.

I would love to trade places for a day with...
I would love to trade places for a day with a judge for either Iron Chef or Top Chef because, I mean, have you seen their jobs? They get to eat great food for a living!

My favorite team to watch as a kid was...
I grew up going to a lot of Galaxy soccer games because my dad was invloved in the West Valley soccer league. Tt was always exciting to watch Kobe Jones play.

My favorite athlete to watch is...
It's not really a favorite athlete, but a favorite match-up. I love watching Federer and Nadal play each other. Both players are so talented and always manage to bring tennis to a new level when they compete against each other.

The talent I'd most like to have is...
I would like to be able to cook. I spend all this time watching the Food Network, but do not feel I have absorbed any of the talent from it. I love food and everyone loves someone who can cook!

My favorite memory as a Trojan is...
Being the clincher for the match against UCLA my freshman year. Winning a match, coming from behind, and ultimately clinching the Gauntlet for USC. I loved that moment because normally tennis is one of the lesser known sports in a university and that really put the efforts of the tennis team in the spotlight. Also, being a Pac-10 doubles champion with Gabriella Niculescu was also a great honor in that we were the first USC team in years to win that title.

The attribute I most like about myself is...
My hard working nature because I know no matter where I go, I at least have the attitude and perseverance in me that is needed to succeed.

My plans after college are...
My plans for next year are to play tennis on the professional tour.

The best thing about the USC is...
Getting to see the amazing and wonderfully different things my friends participate in here. It opens you up to all the possibilities this campus has to offer. Some of my favorite things to see have been commedus interuptus (improv comedy shows), the musical theater productions and acapella group performances.

My funniest teammate is...
Leyla Entekhabi. She knows just what to say to make anyone smile and she can start up a conversation with anyone about anything, whether it be politics, life experiences, the Lakers, treadmills, or polar bears. She also probably knows enough about curing her own ailments to be a certified pharmacist.

The sport I'm the worst at is...
Football because I cannot even throw the ball correctly let alone play the sport. Although, somehow I did manage to score a touchdown in the Thanksgiving game I played with my friends. I think I just caught a ball in the end zone.

Something about me that others would be surprised to hear is...
I really enjoy singing and writing poetry. I spend whatever down time I can collaborating to write music with one of my best friends from home.

Which of your teammates would you like to trade places with for a day and why?
I would like to tade places with Alison Ramos. She always seems to make the most out of every moment and fun follows her wherever she goes.

The best advice I've received was...
The best advice that I have received is, 'True hapiness comes from discovering who you are and doing what makes YOU happy, not what pleases others'.

My biggest pet peeve is...
My biggest pet peeve is not following a plan. My teammates will confirm that I am a big worrier and when I am running late to something or thing changes at the last minute, I tend to freak out.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I have to go to France again. I got to go this year, but I was so busy playing tennis that I didn't get to sight see! So, I would really like to go to Europe and travel through France and Italy and at least see the Eiffel tower when I go to France this time.
